100 Oak Park Drive

Forest Knolls is centrally located on the San Francisco map with distinctive characteristics that transport residents and visitors to an environment that feels far from city life.

Residential streets in Forest Knolls come with a variety of housing, often in a Mid-Century Modern style. A collection of single-family homes, condominiums, duplexes, and bigger multi-unit properties are filled with a wide variety of residents from families and longtime residents, to students and professionals that work at the nearby medical campus. The steep hillsides upon which these homes are built boast remarkable views from every corner of the neighborhood.
With an elevation of 909 feet, Mount Sutro sits in the neighborhood’s northern sector and is as one of San Francisco’s original Seven Hills, with the majority of its land owned by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Approximately 80 percent of Mount Sutro is naturally covered by a dense forest, primarily made up of eucalyptus trees, its oldest ones standing over 100 feet tall.

At the most northern point of this neighborhood sits the University of California Medical Center, which spills over into the bordering Inner Sunset. UCSF is a world-renowned center of research, patient care, and education and widely regarded as one of the world’s leading universities in health sciences.

Neighboring districts offer Forest Knolls all of the niceties of urban living while its natural surrounding habitat provides a tranquil environment tucked away in the center of the city.

The West Portal neighborhood is ideal for the Bay Area resident who loves supporting local businesses. Find all your favorite books and shop for new ones at the BookShop West Portal, buy all your hardware needs at Papenhausen Hardware (opening soon after reconstruction), and find hidden musical treasures at The Music Store. These small shops (and many others) are what make West Portal such a tight-knit community.

CineArts at the Empire is West Portal’s only movie theater and is a great place to watch the latest feature films. After the show, choose from several delicious  restaurants, including:
Orexi: Only open during dinner time, their selection of Greek and Mediterranean fare is as popular as their stylish dining room.
Calibur: Cap off the perfect combination of dinner and a movie with one of their burgers and a tasty milkshakes.
New Tsing Tao Restaurant: Enjoy amazing Chinese cuisine in this casual, locally owned restaurant.

The Stern Grove Festival takes place every summer just outside of the southwest section of West Portal. Each Sunday from the beginning of June through mid-August, locals and tourists gather for a day of music, food, and fun. Even when the festival ends, there is still plenty to enjoy and explore at the Sigmund Grove Recreation Center including an off-leash dog park, several outdoor athletic courts and fields, a playground, and the Tracedro House, which is reservable for private events.

Enjoy the best of easy commuting and fun activities when you live in West Portal!
